Taking a little time to myself

photos taken in 2013

Some random pieces of my life (from my Instagram):
 My current fragrance

 Necklace from Forever 21

Me and my favorite denim jacket (as of now)
Longline black denim jacket from ASOS

My first concoction: A chocolate banana milkshake

 Necklace from ASOS

Heels from New Look, Red roses headband from H&M, Jelly bag from Shanghai

Amidst all the busy days filled to the brim with activities, one thing I thoroughly enjoy is dedicating a bit of time to myself. Be it doing something alone or simply taking a bit of time out of my schedule to think about life. Sounds philosophical, huh. It's good to have these moments where I can just let my thoughts run wild, to think about where I've been, what I've done, and where I want to go. Even extroverts like me need time to ourselves every once in awhile.

While I do believe that YOLO and 'Do what you love' is overrated, there is this facet of ourselves that we simply cannot deny. Quoting George Bernard Shaw, Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. (i.e. my current slogan). At this moment, I see life as a platform for me to continuously reinvent and craft exactly who I am (that's my slogan in life btw).

Oscar Wilde once said, To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. One day, I want to be able to look back someday and know that I lived my life being true to myself. If that means fighting tooth and nail for the things I want in my life, to never give up, then so be it.

I'm getting too emo aren't I? Just one last quote, giving up is for rookies (Hercules - Disney). If someone out there reads this post till its very end, don't give up on anything worth fighting for. I'm rooting for you too.

Spotting Trends from NYFW (Fall/Winter 2014)

While I'm supposed to be studying for my tests, I've been spotting upcoming fall/winter trends in NYFW. Since fashion weeks start in New York, I COULD be wrong about what I'm suggesting, but based on everything I've seen in NYFW, these are probably two of the upcoming fall/winter 2014 trends you might want to check out (and not miss):

1. PLAID
From left to right: Anna Sui, DKNY, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang

2. BLACK
From left to right: DKNY, DKNY, Donna Karen, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang

I know there are more, like red and houndstooth, but given my lack of time and my aversion to being wrong, I figured I'd make a small post about this.

Some brands that caught my eye from NYFW: DKNY, Polo Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Betsey Johnson

Pieces of Fashion: Lusting Upon Shoes

I'm a girl. A girl with big feet.
Which actually sucks, because it's so hard to buy all those heels, flatforms, boots and creepers from cheap blogshops. So, the only route for me is the expensive one. To buy off brands that sell shoes my size.
AND, brands that actually sell the shoes with those pretty designs are the brands that are gonna cost me over a $100 for a pretty pair of shoes.

So imagine my fascination when I chanced upon Miss KL and saw practically ALL the shoes that I've been dreaming of on their page.
(click image to go to Miss KL. yes, you can dream about pretty shoes too)

Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure many girls would be lasting after these shoes too.
I mean, look at these.

The Hellbounds Shoe in Indigo by UNIF

Honestly, this pair of boots look wicked awesome. Look at its unique design and make. It takes Litas up to a whole new level. Not to mention the additional height that would come with wearing these babies out. This pair would probably add color and an edge to black grunge/indie/rock chic looks . Definitely a LUST.

Lita Hologram Shoe in Silver by Jeffrey Campbell

I must be the only girl who doesn't own a pair of Jeffrey Cambells. Damn. The hologram litas add so much rockstar into an outfit and in my opinion, can go with everything. From girly to grunge.

Reaper Spiked Shoe in Black by UNIF

This has got to be MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE pair of boots EVER. The ombre heel, the studs, and it's black! This is completely me, and completely grunge/rock. I think I can wear these to concerts if I ever own a pair.

The Bloq Boot in Black by YRU

Every grunge girl needs the basic faltform boot, no? This pait of boots by YRU are completely a basic in any grunge wardrobe, and not to mention, relatively affordable compared to the rest of the boots in this post.

Well, hope you liked it!

March Looks Compilation

Fine, this is my lazy post on all the looks that I've posted up on this blog in March. But honestly, it's kind of my recollection of what I've done this month. HAHA.

11 looks! That's more than what I expected!

Personal favorites definitely include #11and #4. and by some weird coincidence, I'm wearing the same Forever 21 Studded Military Jacket in both. BUT, I really love 'my' blue eyes in #1. They almost look natural on me, and they give the entire look a whole new level to it!

Which do you like best out of my March looks?

Cross Me Out

I just got my macbook back and I'm beyond happy~ YAY!

Plus there's the thing where I'm feeling so guilty for not posting any outfit posts in the past week because of my hectic schedule. So, I rushed this post and made sure everyone can read it this Easter weekend. Or see the pictures... Whichever works.

For the sake of clarification, none of the photos are photoshopped and all are taken on my iPhone 4s. Well, let's just say I never expected this outfit to turn out so perfectly that I simply HAD TO post this up. (and coerce my brother into taking the pictures for me as I rushed out of the house...)

Before you criticize the lack of coordination of the widths in my pictures below, I'm going to say that I've tried SO MANYYYYYY ways to get all of them to the same width but none seems to be working. Guess I'm still on the drawing board with this one. Help? LOL.

Outfit:
'I Fancy the Lead Singer' Tee from H&M
Shorts (that you can't see) from Forever 21
Studded Military Jacket from Forever 21 (similar here)
Gothic Cross Suspender Tights from ASOS (see here)
Velvet Ankle Boots from NineWest
Studs Allover Bucket Bag from ButteredGun
Bowler hat from H&M
Assorted Rings from Lovisa

What I really liked about this outfit was how the black really brought out the essence of the entire look, giving it this really rock, indie look that actually looks a bit dressy and chic (compared to what the rest of the people in Singapore wear. Well, most of them.).

I'm not going to lie, I did want to show off my new tights and bowler hat too. Mad love those two new accessories that I've added to my wardrobe.

I probably don't look too bad, but clearly, not every picture is perfect...

Trust me, that's the mildest of my eccentricities and probably one of the few you'll ever see.

Anyway, HAPPY EASTER!

Pieces of Fashion: Funky Bling

From Left to Right:
Nasty beanie hat by Funky Bling (See here)
Hero bandana by Funky Bling (See here)
Crosses beanie hat by Funky Bling (See here)

Every grunge/rock chic girl needs one thing: Headgear.

Beanies have become such a staple to so many of my looks that I can't help veering my eyes towards really pretty headwear. When I first saw these from Funky Bling via ASOS, I was salivating. But my sanity was telling me that I really could not afford to get them at the prices they're going for so... Salivating it shall be.

Choosing the right kind of hat is really a pain in the ass at times because not every kind of hat fits your face, and sometimes, you just can't seem to find something you want at the right price. Believe me, I'm in the midst of convincing myself that I don't actually need the floppy hat.

Well, just a tip in for today! Have a great day sweethearts!

Gucci at Fullerton

Disclaimer: I simply lack the time to photoshop this set of photos. and yes, I use photoshop.

Outfit:
Faux Leather Peplum Top from Forever 21 (Similar here)
Ripped Denim Shorts from Cotton On
Chain Earrings from Forever 21
Statement necklace from bazaar
Craft Original GG Canvas Tote from Gucci (See here)
Wedged Ankle Boots from Ninewest

This look really gave me a really chic look, and yet, a hint of my usual edginess still lies in that look. Usually I'm the girl who dresses in really affordable clothes, but the Gucci bag was really a gift and one of my few prized possessions (and it doesn't match most of my usual stuff) so I guess that's why you don't see it out much.

BUT, I do love my Gucci. Which girl wouldn't?

Pieces of Fashion: Thigh High

Another obsession of mine: Tights.

From Left to Right:
House Of Holland For Pretty Polly Super Suspender - available on ASOS (see here)
ASOS Cat Suspender Tights (see here)
ASOS Sheer Cross All Over Tights (see here)
ASOS Gothic Cross Suspender Tights (see here)
ASOS Ripped Look Tights (see here)

To be specific, I'm talking about tights that have designs on them. Namely, suspender/ripped tights.
I've never been the girly-girl, who could pull off the socks with boots/heels/pumps look. Then, there's how I don't look good in socks at weird lengths... SO, my best, most flattering alternative, are tights.

I don't know if this happens for everybody, but magically, I look slimmer once I throw on a pair of tights. Be it neon pink or black. It's as if tights has this magical property in them.

Of course, I'm not encouraging you to get a pair of tights NOW, maybe this is a tidbit you should think about. Besides, why not take that leap in fashion. It's always better to have tried than to never have done. (Pamela Avery's words of wisdom)

Some really quick pros about tights:
They're not as thick as leggings (duh.)
You can really look around for tights that suit your style.
Designs on tights can be really trendy (or sexy, when talking about suspender tights)

Some tips when you're wearing tights:
Tights are NEVER EVER EVER EVER a substitute for bottoms. NEVER. (Firstly, unless you wear a g-string, your panty line and overflowing butt shows. Secondly, most of us don't have the perfect, sexy ass, so watch the saggy butt girls.)

Oh, and a personal preference is black. They look more chic, and black itself has a very flattering effect on all body types.

Grunge It Is

Outfit:
Flannel Blouse from Forever 21 (see here)
Leopard Print Cardigan from Forever 21 (see similar here)
'Made In USA' Tee from Forever 21 (see here)
Faux Leather Shorts from Forever 21 (see similar here)
Silver Chain Earrings from Forever 21 (see similar here)
Ripped Look Tights from ASOS (see here)
ALLEY Leather Flatform Chelsea Ankle Boots from ASOS (see here)
Round Sunglasses from ASOS (see similar here)
Assorted hand acccessories from The Editor's Market, ASOS, M)Phosis
Cat Ear Beanie from Qoo10

Well, I did promise an actual outfit post on this look after my movie day, and here it is!

The idea of outfit was really to match different patterns together to get this really grunge look. I THINK I succeeded in that sense, because by some stroke of luck, the cardigan really matched the flannel blouse!

I didn't want to go for those oversized 'boyfriend' sized flannel blouses, so instead, I got the real thing. A flannel blouse from the men's section in Forever 21. It works in the exact same way, so... it's really up to you.

As for the boots, it would be good to get a slightly larger size, OR to wear socks in them I guess. Because they seriously hurt like a bitch when I wore them to school. I ended up taking a cab home and walking barefooted back to my flat. YES, barefooted except for my tights.

Well, while I tend to new blisters, hope you enjoyed this look!
