March Looks Compilation

Fine, this is my lazy post on all the looks that I've posted up on this blog in March. But honestly, it's kind of my recollection of what I've done this month. HAHA.

11 looks! That's more than what I expected!

Personal favorites definitely include #11and #4. and by some weird coincidence, I'm wearing the same Forever 21 Studded Military Jacket in both. BUT, I really love 'my' blue eyes in #1. They almost look natural on me, and they give the entire look a whole new level to it!

Which do you like best out of my March looks?

Pop Music Playlist: March 2013

Yes, I'm on it, I'm on it!

I've been all fashion lately and I'm seriously lagging in the music department, I KNOW. so here's my playlist for the month of March.

Mini disclaimer: All songs here will be taken from genres ranging from pop/pop rock/pop country. As long as I smell a hint of pop, they're thrown into this playlist!

#1: Shake it Off by Secondhand Serenade
The fact that I bought this song the instant I could and how this is a successful change in music approach from Secondhand Serenade, I'd say that this song would DEFINITELY be on the list. It was practically a prerequisite as I was thinking of what to include on this list!

#2: This Isn't Love by The Royal
A relatively new band, and I've actually reviewed them twice (and own all their singles). Give this song a listen, it had me singing along to it on the first listen. Yes, it's THAT addictive.

#3: Boomerang by The Summer Set
I LOVE THIS SONG. I really have no idea what you expect me to say. For a band that's about to release their first album soon, I gotta say this song has got me beyond excited. It's a song I listen to almost everyday, it's a song I can't stop singing along to... I see the potential. No kidding.

#4: Heart Attack by Demi Lovato
This song has not only got my attention, it's gotten the attention of EVERYONE who's interested in Demi's music. Demi may not be the best judge, but she's definitely got one of the best vocals of the people in our generation. *wallowing in envy*

#5: Gorilla by Bruno Mars
Strangely enough, this is the only song that caught my attention from Bruno Mars' latest album, Unorthodox Jukebox. This song feels completely like a Bruno Mars song, and I love singing along to Bruno Mars' songs, so... No surprise why it's here.

#6: My Signature Move by P!nk
P!nk is one of my favorite singers EVER, and just so happens to be one of the few voices I can sing along to at my key. I've always adored how P!nk's lyrics are always so real and they really seem to show a piece of her in every song. She doesn't sugarcoat romance and doesn't show you the pretty sides of life. She gives reality. and that's probably why I love P!nk's music.

#7: Hummingbird Heartbeat by Katy Perry
Spring's here and really, there's no doubt one great song can lift your mood. Granted, this isn't new, but it's such a great song to listen to when you're out enjoying the good weather and falling in love with everything and anything simply because it's spring.

#8: Wings by Little Mix
The first group to win on The X Factor UK, and I'm telling you, these girls didn't win the competition based on their looks. Wings is one of my favorite Little Mix songs because the song really talks about spreading your wings and going for what you believe in. For a song? I'd say these four girls are living models of what you can accomplish when you spread those wings.

#9: Red by Taylor Swift
Strangely enough, it wasn't I Knew You Were Trouble or State of Grace that got to me when she first released Red (the album), but it was really this song. Sure, it talks about still loving someone, but how she uses colors to describe her feelings at the different stages... Not many of us would consider that.. Well, maybe with the exception of artists.

#10: Go To Hell by Go Radio
I confess. This is the first song I've listened from Go Radio and I happened to chance upon it when I saw The Summer Set share it when I opened youtube (to find the links for this blog). When I clicked it, I had the gnawing instinct that this song was going on my playlist, and I guess my instincts proved me right. The gruffness in the lead singer's voice and the song, it's so easy to sing along to Go To Hell. Hell, you don't even need me to tell you which 3 words are the easiest to sing along to.

Hoped you liked the playlist!
Happy Easter!

Cross Me Out

I just got my macbook back and I'm beyond happy~ YAY!

Plus there's the thing where I'm feeling so guilty for not posting any outfit posts in the past week because of my hectic schedule. So, I rushed this post and made sure everyone can read it this Easter weekend. Or see the pictures... Whichever works.

For the sake of clarification, none of the photos are photoshopped and all are taken on my iPhone 4s. Well, let's just say I never expected this outfit to turn out so perfectly that I simply HAD TO post this up. (and coerce my brother into taking the pictures for me as I rushed out of the house...)

Before you criticize the lack of coordination of the widths in my pictures below, I'm going to say that I've tried SO MANYYYYYY ways to get all of them to the same width but none seems to be working. Guess I'm still on the drawing board with this one. Help? LOL.

Outfit:
'I Fancy the Lead Singer' Tee from H&M
Shorts (that you can't see) from Forever 21
Studded Military Jacket from Forever 21 (similar here)
Gothic Cross Suspender Tights from ASOS (see here)
Velvet Ankle Boots from NineWest
Studs Allover Bucket Bag from ButteredGun
Bowler hat from H&M
Assorted Rings from Lovisa

What I really liked about this outfit was how the black really brought out the essence of the entire look, giving it this really rock, indie look that actually looks a bit dressy and chic (compared to what the rest of the people in Singapore wear. Well, most of them.).

I'm not going to lie, I did want to show off my new tights and bowler hat too. Mad love those two new accessories that I've added to my wardrobe.

I probably don't look too bad, but clearly, not every picture is perfect...

Trust me, that's the mildest of my eccentricities and probably one of the few you'll ever see.

Anyway, HAPPY EASTER!

Pieces of Fashion: Funky Bling

From Left to Right:
Nasty beanie hat by Funky Bling (See here)
Hero bandana by Funky Bling (See here)
Crosses beanie hat by Funky Bling (See here)

Every grunge/rock chic girl needs one thing: Headgear.

Beanies have become such a staple to so many of my looks that I can't help veering my eyes towards really pretty headwear. When I first saw these from Funky Bling via ASOS, I was salivating. But my sanity was telling me that I really could not afford to get them at the prices they're going for so... Salivating it shall be.

Choosing the right kind of hat is really a pain in the ass at times because not every kind of hat fits your face, and sometimes, you just can't seem to find something you want at the right price. Believe me, I'm in the midst of convincing myself that I don't actually need the floppy hat.

Well, just a tip in for today! Have a great day sweethearts!

Tutorial: The Muscle Tank

Yes, yes. I'm feeling guilty about my crappy posts and lack of fashion presence recently. SO, I did this tutorial (although I'm pretty sure you can find it all over the web) to make myself feel better. (and to keep this space alive)

Muscle tanks are clearly making a comeback this S/S in the world of street-style, and a basic tank can cost you SGD$27-30+ if you decide to drop into Forever 21 to keep your wardrobe up-to-date. Personally, I love how the muscle tank works perfectly in Singapore where the heat never fades, and since there's a cheaper way to do it... Why not share?

Things you need to get your muscle tank are basically a marker (optional), an old BAGGY tee (preferably men's-cut because it's so much more fitting) and your trusty ol' scissors. Now you're ready to begin!

Usually I skip this step and simply CUT, but for the sake of first timers and this tutorial, I'm recommending you dot in where you want to cut (to prevent any imminent disaster). I like a larger arm opening, so I opted to cut away the sleeves to approximately the middle of the tee. It's really up to you how you want to do it though.

PS. yes, that's a Linkin Park tee I got when I bought the album. Guess I have a reason to wear it out now!

This step is basically cutting the tee. Don't worry too much about how straight it is. JUST CUT IT. It gives a really grunge vibe when you leave it somewhat messy, but do try to keep the shape of the tank there!

For the neckline, I like to cut it slightly beyond the original neckline, and I keep this even for the back. So, what I usually do is cut the sides, then the entire neckline, instead of both sides at a go (like I usually do for the sides)

Some tips AFTER Step 2:
Pull on the areas you've cut to get the ends to roll in. It gives the tank a more finished look and makes it totally grunge. (that's why you don't need to worry too much about the edges!)

And you're done!
Seriously, cutting up tees is my favorite thing to do when I'm feeling stressed. (Apart from snacking and blogging) What can I say, it's therapeutic for my soul!

Outfit:
Muscle Tank (self-created)
Ripped Denim Shorts (self-created from long shorts)
Round Sunglasses from H&M
Electric Blue Beanie from Qoo10.sg
Combat Boots from Shanghai

Have a great week my dears!

This is some made up post where I post photos I think I've yet too post because I'm simply too busy to do anything else. Including taking new photos. Plus I don't have my lappy back yet, so it's practically impossible for me to load new photos into picasa without editting them to fit my posts.

Idolism

Let's be honest here. Who has NEVER idolized a single person or celeb in your lifetime?

Since I've been growing up, I've idolized people like Jolin Tsai, BoA, Barbie (Yes, I mean the doll), Christina Aguilera, Jonas Brothers (don't ask), Adam Levine... The list hardly ends there.

Sometimes adults tell us we're wasting our time, it's useless looking up to and dreaming of these people who you will never meet. I don't disagree that I will probably never see Adam Levine, but I don't think it's wrong to look up to someone.

Granted, the person we're looking up to may not be the most decent people walking on this earth or fronting some really righteous movement, but most of these people we look up to are the ones on this earth who actually braved the haters, negative responses, paparazzi or even never-ending low-pay contracts just to live their dream. These are the people who gave it their all to reach where they are today.

Don't you think someone who's say... tone death, but won many Grammys and has undoubtedly been known for her magnificent voice deserve the right to be idolized? Or perhaps the girl with two left feet who is now known as the Dancing Queen in Chinese music?

So many of us, me included, are stuck in our world where we have dreams we want to live but don't do so because we're so afraid of the unknown. Who choose jobs we merely like because its safer than going for our dreams.

Compared to these 'idols', don't you think we have a right to look up to some of them for them betting in the unknown and living out their dreams?

Personally, idols are not necessarily someone we worship to, but more of someone we adore, respect, look up to and love because of who they are (on screen at least), what they've done to get to where they are today, and their talents.

So the next time someone criticizes you for idolizing someone (even if its Justin Bieber or One Direction)... Well, they just don't know the whole picture.
